This is a 6ft 6ins pintail x 18ins x 2.25ins. It is shaped from Clarkfoam superblue polyurethane and glassed conventionally with polyester resin with 2 layers of 4oz Hexcell on the deck and one layer on the bottom. F.C.S. (Fin Control System) was also employed. The rails are quite thin as it was made for bigger days when the waves are nice and hollow and you just want to drop-in, do a hard bottom turn, slot in and drive hard down the line. We dont get that kind of wave very often in England, but when the Gulf Coast of America get's their Hurricane season, we can get some really good swells, especially if we have an area of high pressure right over us which makes for off-shore winds and clean hollow waves. One of my future projects will be thrusters made with Styrofoam and epoxy resin, possibly with veneer. Also, larger thrusters made in balsa wood if I can find the right source. |
