Longboards are an exciting challenge. When confronted with a huge rough blank, the feeling is similar to starting a painting and looking at a blank canvas.  Over the years I have made a number of longboards, including hollow wooden boards and lightweight veneered models incorporating different coloured veneer's, and as with all my boards, I approach them as functional Art.

Today, my tendency is more towards traditional Mal's with classic lines and a little bit of extra weight which in my oppinion is advantageous as it gives the board more momentum and drive. I have found that despite the extra weight, they are just as manouverable as lighter boards as long as the rocker and rails are right.

The board shown is my own board and is 9ft 5ins x 22.5ins x 3.25ins,  triple stringer model with mahogany and balsa nose and tail blocks with a single fin.
