This is a hollow balsa and redwood 8ft x 22 x 2.75ins Mini Mal with solid balsa rails, nose and tail. It also has a single laminated balsa fin and a pin tail.

It's relatively light at 16lbs, very tough and will last a lifetime.

In England, it is very hard to source balsa in lengths greater then 3ft so all the planks are scarfed.  I am trying to locate suppliers of raw balsa planks up to 12ft in length so that I can make my own blanks that are chambered rather then building on a frame.  (If any readers know of where I can get balsa wood, please let me know)

This board belongs to my son who will never part with it.

When it's not in use, it looks really great on the wall alongside my surf paintings.

It takes off down the line at an incredible rate of knots, carves really nicely and yet you can get up on the nose really nicely.  Initially, it had two smaller side fins as well, but we found that it was better with just the single.
